Our Faith & Beliefs

Rooted in Scripture. Guided by the Holy Spirit.

Statement of Faith

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existing as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Bible

We believe the scriptures are the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God, serving as our supreme guide for both faith and daily practice.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, died as an atoning sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, and will eventually return in glory to judge the world.

Salvation by Grace

We believe that eternal life is a free gift of God, cannot be earned by human works, and is received entirely through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is actively present today, regenerating the believer, and continually empowering us for holy living and effective witness in a complex world.

The Church

We believe the Church is the spiritual body of Christ, a diverse community called together to worship God, fellowship with one another, engage in discipleship, and accomplish his mission on earth.

Prayer

We view prayer as a vital spiritual discipline. We firmly believe that God hears our prayers, answers them according to His will, and still intervenes supernaturally today.

The Sacraments

We faithfully observe Holy Communion to remember the Lord\'s sacrifice, and Water Baptism as public declarations of faith ordained by Jesus Christ himself.

Eternal Life

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, anticipating the glorious reality of Heaven for believers, and the sober reality of eternal judgment.

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope."

— Jeremiah 29:11

The Celestial Church Tradition

The Celestial Church of Christ is characterized by distinctive spiritual practices that have guided our faith journey for decades. Prominent among these is the wearing of plain white garments, known as the sutana, during our worship services. This practice symbolizes purity, equality before God, and our spiritual readiness.

We place a strong emphasis on the active movement of the Holy Spirit, incorporating prophetic ministry, healing prayers, and dedicated fasts into our congregational life. We celebrate our faith with vibrant thanksgiving services, most notably our Annual Harvest, a deeply joyous occasion.

At Altar of Life, we embrace the beautiful harmony that exists between rich African spiritual heritage and orthodox Christian doctrine, creating a worship experience that is both culturally resonant and biblically sound.

Our Worship Style

A typical worship service at Altar of Life is a vibrant and spiritually uplifting experience. It begins with enthusiastic, spirit-filled praise and worship, characterized by the joyful sound of hymns and contemporary songs, often sung in both English and Yoruba.

This is followed by dedicated times for communal prayer, reverent scripture reading, and an impassioned, expository sermon designed to apply biblical truths to our modern lives. The service concludes with announcements, a final blessing, and an opportunity for personal ministry and fellowship.
